The One Big Beautiful Bill and What It Means for Firearms Owners

The passage of H.R.1, better known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” is a major win for firearms owners. Especially those interested in getting into suppressors or short‑barreled rifles and shotguns. While we at Bauer Precision would’ve preferred the original version of the bill that removed suppressors and SBRs from the NFA entirely, what passed is still the most significant step toward deregulation we’ve seen in a long time.

Starting January 2026: No More $200 Tax

As of January, 2026, the $200 federal tax on suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs will be eliminated. The standard NFA process: fingerprints, Form 4s, background checks, wait times will still apply, but that $200 barrier to entry is officially gone.

In our eyes, this isn't just a tax cut. It’s a shift in momentum. It gives us a solid foothold to keep pushing for broader NFA reform in the future.

Why This Is a Big Deal

For years, the tax stamp has been one of the biggest deterrents to new suppressor owners. It added cost, complexity, and hesitation to the process. Now that the cost portion is being removed, we expect a wave of new interest which could lead to increased demand across the industry.

This bill makes suppressed shooting more accessible than ever before. That’s worth celebrating.

Why You Shouldn't Wait

From a retail standpoint, we expect inventory constraints as we get closer to January. As the news cycle picks up, more people will start placing orders, and many popular suppressor models may start to dry up.

There’s also the very real possibility that prices could rise. Increased demand, production limitations, and supplier delays could all impact availability and cost. If you’ve been on the fence, buying sooner, regardless of whether you file now or wait is going to be your best move.

We’ll Hold Your Order Until the Tax Drops

If you’d like us to hold your suppressor until the tax drops, just include “DELAY FORM” in your order notes at checkout.

  • Local customers: We’ll hold the suppressor in-store and file your Form 4 in January.
  • Out-of-state customers: We’ll delay the Form 3 transfer to your local dealer until the tax-free window opens.

That means:

  • You lock in the suppressor you want now
  • We keep it set aside for the tax-free window
  • You save $200 and skip the inventory scramble
Please note: Our normal NFA cancellation policy still applies to all orders, including those marked for delayed filing.

Here’s the Bottom Line:

  • Tax-free stamps go live January, 2026
  • NFA process still applies, but the cost barrier is removed
  • Demand is expected to spike, and prices could rise
  • We’ll hold your suppressor so you can time your filing with the tax elimination and still get the model you want

Whether it’s your first can or your tenth, this is the most advantageous time we’ve seen in years to get into suppressed shooting. If you’ve been waiting for a reason, this is it.

As always, if you have questions or want to talk through your options, reach out or stop by the store. We’re here to help.

Let’s get you set up while inventory is still strong.
